Our History

The Farmers National Bank of Emlenton is a commercial bank chartered in Pennsylvania in 1900 for the purpose of providing bank services to the local communities it serves.

Farmers National Bank was originally chartered in 1900 by James Bennett and a group of businessmen. The current location which houses the Emlenton Branch and executive offices was built from 1900 to 1904 at a cost of $52,000.

Throughout the years many renovations have taken place, and at this point, the bank and its executive offices occupy the entire first, second, and third floors.

The bank established its first branch office in Eau Claire in 1978. As we continued to grow and expand our market area, a second branch office was opened in Clarion in 1985.

In July 1991 Farmers National Bank purchased offices in Emlenton and East Brady from Mellon Bank. The East Brady office began operating as a branch of Farmers National Bank, while the Emlenton office was absorbed into our existing Emlenton operations.

The year 1996 once again saw additional growth in the size and structure of the bank with three new offices being opened. We established ourselves in the Butler market with a branch in the Bon Aire Plaza in June. In August we opened a full-service branch in the Tom’s Riverside grocery store located on Route 338 in Knox. Farmers National Bank also purchased the deposits and building formerly owned by Mellon Bank in September, and began operating as Farmers National Bank’s Knox - Main Street office.

In 1998 the bank constructed a new Data Center facility in Emlenton to house the computer systems, data processing, and booking departments. In March, the bank opened an office in the Clarion Mall. In August of that same year Farmers National Bank acquired Peoples Savings Bank and its offices in Ridgway, DuBois, and Brookville. The DuBois office has since been relocated to a newly constructed facility on Beaver Drive. The Brookville office has been remodeled to resemble the historic look of the downtown area.

During 2001, the Knox – Main Street office was closed and consolidated into our office in Tom’s Riverside which had undergone a major expansion and renovation project which included an expanded lobby area and the addition of safe deposit boxes and another drive up lane.

Our branch network expanded once again in January, 2003 with the addition of our Meridian office at the intersection of Rt. 68 and Meridian Road in Butler, PA.

The Board of Directors of Farmers National Bank has always been committed to the idea of remaining an independent community bank. This was evidenced by the forming of Emclaire Financial Corp in 1989. This one bank holding company offered the Bank the ability to remain independent and to allow for further business ventures in the future. The employees, management, and board of directors of this Bank are dedicated to providing the best possible service and products, and to reinvest in the local communities we serve and as they grow, we will grow. Serving this area from this area… it’s not just a slogan – it’s the way we do business!
